Burnet County Continues Search for Missing Fire Chief; State Task Force Deployed

BURNET COUNTY, TX – July 26, 2025 – The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) recently deployed Texas Task Force 2 (TX-TF2) to Burnet County for an additional search for missing Marble Falls Fire Chief Michael Phillips near Cow Creek.

For several days, TX-TF2 operated from the AgriLife Building at 601 Vanderveer Street as their base. After reporting their findings to Burnet County Judge Bryan Wilson, the task force was released back to TDEM. Judge Wilson indicated that Burnet County might request further assistance in the future.

Since the catastrophic floods began on July 5, 2025, Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd has led a highly-resourced and exhaustive search for flood victims. These devastating floods resulted in fatalities and significant property damage. The extensive efforts have included local law enforcement, fire departments, and first responders from across Texas. State and federal support has been substantial, involving DPS, Parks and Wildlife, LCRA, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, state emergency management, and military personnel with air support. The search has employed people, K9 units, drones, and specialized detection equipment.

Burnet County remains immensely grateful to all agencies, personnel, and volunteers for their rapid response and dedicated assistance in these critical search, rescue, and recovery efforts.
